A Headband Holder Tutorial
Sunday, October 16, 2011 at 11:22PM My Friend, Julie, ordered a headband holder for her daughter. After several trips to the hardware store, lamp store, and fabric store here is what I came up with!
I went to a lamp store and bought this round base for $5 and spray painted it pink. It already had the hole in the bottom. Then I bought a 1/4 inch threaded rod from the hardware store along with 3 quarter inch nuts and 3 quarter inch washers. Oh, then one jumbo sized washer! See photo way below!
I put a washer and nut on the bottom and on the top of the wooden base. Later I used Gorilla Glue to keep these forever tight.
I used a role of paper towels and covered it with fabric. I tucked the faric into the hole on the bottom of the paper towel roll. Don't tuck the faric in on the top yet! No sewing here, just my hot glue gun! I glued on a piece of lime green ric-rac to cover the seam. The threaded dowel was too long so I cut it off after I put my roll of paper towels on there to check the heigth needed.
Here is my jumbo washer. The top of my paper towel roll kept sinking in so ANOTHER trip to the hardware store. I think I made about 5 trips total! This was a figure-it-out-as-I-go project! I did put a little hot glue under the large washer to keep it in place. It kept getting off center as I was tucking in the fabric.
Now tuck your fabric in that hole. I had to use a screw driver to get the last bit in.
Now add the third washer and nut. I added a little glue when I screwed on the washer. Make that sucker tight but not too tight as the huge washer will start to sink in to the paper towel roll!
I wanted something to go on top so to the hardware store I went! I got a wooden drawer pull and spray painted it. I used a big drill bit and made the hole wider so it would fit over the nut.
I used the Gorilla glue again and glued it on the top. DONE!
Isn't it just beautiful!?
I hope Gracie Loves it!!
